The ObsidianWire Les Paul® Wiring Harness

The Obsidian® Vintage MKII for Les Paul® is a comprehensive upgrade over stock wiring, that also combines 'Vintage 50's' and '60's Plus' wiring in one product. You can choose between the vintage roll back of the traditional 'Vintage 50's' harness, and superior clarity of the more modern '60's Plus' wiring with the flick of the switch.

You get a switch for each pickup, so if you want to run a 'Vintage 50's' setup on the neck pickup, and an Obsidian® '60's Plus' setup for the bridge pickup, YOU CAN.

We also give you the option to upgrade to 'DUAL SC (COIL SPLIT)' for even more versatility

'VINTAGE 50'S' MODE

Allow for some treble roll off when you roll back your volume control for an easy bridge between perfect warm cleans and searing leads.

The 'Vintage 50's' wiring mod is a super popular Les Paul wiring upgrade that reverts your stock LP wiring back to the glory days, and the beginning of the Vintage Les Paul. This is our most popular and personal favorite Les Paul wiring.

'60'S PLUS' MODE

Prevent treble loss when you roll back the volume for greater clarity and cut through at reduced volume levels.

The Obsidian® '60's Plus' wiring is made for clarity and cut through with an improved circuit that will help you retain treble at all volume levels.

DUAL SC (COIL SPLIT)

Turn your humbuckers in to single coils, and back again
To add true versatility to your guitar we build in Obsidian® Dual SC, allowing you to split each of your humbuckers in to singlecoils for lower output, more dynamic tones.

Obsidian® Dual SC is built in to your volume controls using push/pull pots, so no extra mods are required to your guitar.

A quick and easy way to upgrade

This is such a quick and easy way to upgrade the wiring in your Les Paul, in my case it was an Epiphone Modern LP. I did have to enlarge the hole a bit so the Obsidianwire kit would fit, but you should expect since Epiphone uses the smaller metric size pots. I used this kit because I was installing Seymour Duncan Limited 59 PAF humbuckers and didn't want to go through the hassle of getting new pots, caps etc and then having to solder everything together. The only soldering I had to do was un-soldering the ground wire for the bridge from the OEM pot. I didn't have to solder anything installing the 2-wire humbuckers. I also love the ability of choosing between 50's and 60's wiring style. After playing the switches in different position I settled on 50's for my neck pickup and 60's bridge.

Love it

Recently bought an Epi Les Paul Standard pro thats about 10 yrs old. It had scratchy worn pots and a goofy switch. Id used Obsidian before on a Tele build and was so impressed i decided to get one to fix this really nice epi. Super simple to install, works like a charm. Couldnt be happier with it.

Fit right in.

I wanted a no nonsense way to hear the difference in the wirings. The catch, this needed to fit in a Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite with it's half thickness body. Perfect.

Easy To Install and Articulate

I have just installed 2 Les Paul MK II Split Coil harnesses into 2 different Les Pauls. I have found the easy to install. Do not have the need to wire in cable adapters into harness as pickup change is easy and can be done quickly compared to having to desolder and solder new pickups.
Also very articulate and have the ability to change between 50's and 60's wiring with the flick of a switch

Big Improvement

The good news, guitar now sounds amazing. Better than when new and the 50’s/60’s switching is great. I chose the 50’s but good to know I can change anytime. Both sound great. Once you digest the installation guides it’s fairly easy to install and wire even for a first timer like me. Note - the video is misleading. It isn’t clear that you need to ground the bare wire on both Pups but you do. My cavity was also routed such that the fixed position of the push/pull neck volume pot circuit board didn’t fit. I needed to remove some wood to get the board in.

Fantastic

Love this. The clarity and range of sounds is just unbelievable. Took me a bit longer to install because I had to drill out the pot holes on my Epiphone because they were too small, so just beware of that possibility. Other than that, I would 100% recommend. Worth every penny.

Easy install - take your time.

This was s very simple installation. I did have to increase the size of the holes for the pots but that was not a problem at all.
Two little things: Be very careful when tightening braided pickup wires...it is very easy to over-tighten and short out the wiring
-and-
I replaced the switch shipped with this system - with a Switchcraft switch. Easy to do and only soldering I had to do.
Aside from those two items - very easy and when I was done, it was super-clean in that control cavity. This product is the type that should be in every new guitar.
Aside from me over-tightening the ground screw and the personal preference of a Switchcraft switch - this bit of kit is the best I could find and so simple to install.

Excellent product!

I installed this Obsidian Wire MK II system into my Les Paul Traditional this week and the difference was stunning. For the first time in 5 years of owning it, I could actually play it at a gig and did so both nights this weekend. Before, it was dark, muddy and sounded like the speaker was covered with a towel. I lowered the pups, screwed the pole pieces in and out trying to get more highs out of it and even eq'd the hell out of it which only managed to suck up some tone. Now, you can hear more brightness in tone and it has vintage 50s and 60s wiring, changeable with the flick of a switch. Rolling off the volume in the 60s setting help retain some of the highs and the 50s setting allows for some roll off. This is a full weighted LP and it's a totally different beast than my strat so I wanted to get a good feel for it. It will take some time as the radius, neck width and overall feel is like driving a Cadillac compared to roadster that is my Nash strat but boy, humbuckers sure get some grease out of them! It was like having new guitar day after 5 years of waiting. The guitar is named after my late mother in law, Jopie, and like her she radiates.

Out standing

This was a outstanding purchase to up grade this guitar. The quality is absolutely great top notch.
I'm not a guitar expert but electronics I get and this fits the build.50/60s selection is great knob function is Smooth and positive the coil spilt was really not needed but tried it anyhow.id say the pickup wire from the dimarzio pickups are a little fine I tinned the wires before trying to get them in the slots, once anchored they work fine.
Myself I'd like to see a small screw terminal instead of a push to connect. Maybe a Farrell and male end for the insert to be more positive. Once it's all in it works perfectly and as expected.
I have 2 more guitars to play with so I'm sure I'll be buying again.

Easy, not instant

After several years of frustrating tones out of my 2017 Gibson Les Paul I decided to go back to basics on my wiring. My LP model was a Traditional Pro IV and I absolutely hated the wiring complexity, options, pickups and tone. I bought a set of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and let a local guitar shop install them, coil split. Awful. They wired it so the volume controls did nothing and mixing volume and tone was the only way to get anything out of it; volume had to be changed at the amp. Useless. I bought the Vintage MKII and installed it. Very small pickup wires made it challenging but it was worth it. My LP never sounded better and grounding is absolutely silent. Getting the Obsidian was an inspired choice and now I love playing with complete control of my volume and tone mixing and I do not miss the coil split at all. 50s and 60s choices is great. Thanks, Obsidian for making a great product.

Amazing

This is such a great wiring kit. It’s super clean and simple. I think an added image or indicator to help with the orientation of it would have helped, I accidentally installed it reversed in my Les Paul. But that was user error. It sounds great and would buy it again.

Fits like a hand in a glove, also replaced the speed knobs with top hats ...much better feel over the Asian pots. Also love the 50 and 60's wiring switches and coil splits ...options abound. These guitars sound pretty good stock but Obsidian wire brings really brings them to life. Highly recommended. I've also done two telecaster with their 4-way kits ...excellent, so easy to switch out pickups!

Perfect to replace the oem electronics on my 2013 Gibson Les Paul studio wich had some electronic problems. Easy install, works great with the Gibson pickups, also the split coil. The worst experience I’ve ever had

I purchased a PC board from this company almost a month ago. It was almost $200. I got a follow up email immediately, but it took almost a week to receive a tracking number. The tracking number has been invalid from the start. Customer service has refused to respond to even one of my several attempts to contact them in order to merely either provide me with the product or make resolution. I feel like I’m almost being trolled at this point because their customer service is literally that nonexistent. I’m gonna have to go through my bank to get my money back. What a huge letdown.

Avoid this company at all cost

This is a scam clearly. I paid almost $200 for a PC board that never arrived. It’s been almost a month and after three attempts to contact customer service, I haven’t received so much as a courtesy email in response. The tracking information they provided me was invalid and their customer service is nonexistent. It probably won’t even do any good to leave this review because they erased their negative reviews and only allow positive views on the items here on the website. I literally had to challenge this purchase with my financial institution in order to get resolution. If you’re into getting robbed for your hard earned money and ignored when you’re inquiring about your purchase them proceed.

Hi LionsDenKyle,

We're glad we managed to get this sorted for you. Enyoy your new harness.

Didn't Fit My R8

The circuit board of the harness did not fit in the control cavity of my 2021 Gibson 58RI. One side hit the edge of the cavity well before the post could clear the top, so it was basically worthless for the guitar I wanted to install it in. Also, don't plan on using for existing pickups if you they have braided wire. Even if the harness fit, that would have been an issue.

will this harness fit in a Sire L7? I realize the shaft holes will need to be enlarged to 3/8", but otherwise would it work?

ObsidianWire

Hi there, we cannot guarantee compatibility, even with the enlarged holes. Your best bet is to look at the dimensions on the chart linked below and compare the measurements to your existing electronics.
