Custom '7 WAY' for Strat® Gen2 // Gilmour Mod

I've done a lot of standard wiring myself, but whenever I get into the mods I end up screwing something up and having a guitar sitting around for 3 months unplayable until I spend the time to troubleshoot. This time I splurged on this and it was so worth it. Its very high quality, fit perfectly in my guitar and was literally installed in about 15-20 minutes from start to finish. I have an old MiM 50s Strat that is sentimental to me so I've updated the pickups Fender Original 57/62's with the Obsidian electronics and it sounds incredible plus has this cool Gilmore trick now.

Love my new harness from Obsidian Wire. Shipped out very fast. Instructions were straight forward and it works exactly as expected. Added bonus. I did not realize it came with the output jack as well :)

This is my 6th or 7th ObsidianWire harness and I love the ease as well as top notch customer service. This is my second 7 Way and both are great. One was HSS and this one which is SSS. Gilmore on both. Beautiful! Can’t go wrong. Thanks guys fo a great product.

This wiring harness is quality all the way. Fit my partscaster build perfectly and controls and sounds wonderful. The only complaint I have is the push in wiring terminals are a little finicky for instance a very small piece of wire broke off in one and it took me a bit of time to get cleared out of terminal I thought it had rendered this harness useless but my patience paid off and I was able to proceed,

Great setup. The only thing that was difficult was getting the wires to go into the wireless socket. With them twisted tight they weren’t stiff enough to easily slide into the setup with the keys fully depressed they still each one had a tough time getting in and staying locked. Once they were the connection seems solid and secure. Sounds great and all the functionality of the volume and tone pots seem to work perfectly. The tone knob is a bit stiff to lift and access the two additional settings. I’d like if it was a bit easier to do of if I was trying to do it on the fly while playing it might be a bit problematic. Sounds great. Got some vintage suhr 63 pickups and they’re great.

I wanted to change my pickups without soldering and this harness lets me do that. The only problem with these harnesses is that they only fit perfectly for classic guitars, like Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls. But I like classic body shapes, so that's fine. For my Super Strats, I put EMGs. These are easier than those because all the pieces are close together and fit in your pickguard perfectly. I put Tonerider, Fender, Seymour Duncan, and DiMarzio pickups in different Strat guitars I have. The only thing you need to know is what wires are hot, ground, etc. on your pickups. Different companies, and here on this site, have pictures that show you what's what. I do wish the harness was labeled better, say "hot", or be color coded, but it just has numbers for each slot that takes in a wire (so you have to look at the instructions from OW). It's easy, it's like plugging speaker wires into a mini-stereo or something. I put these harnesses in mostly cheap Squires, but also put one in a MIM Fender. The harness will fit in a standard-size pickguard and that will fit on a Squier. You can drill larger holes (for the pots) in your old pickguard that came with an old Squier Bullet, but you don't have to. You can instead just get a standard-sized pickguard. That pickguard will fit rather roughly on an old Squier Bullet. But standard-size pickguards fit on the new Sonic serries of Squires, as good as they do on Fenders. Most Squires have HSH or HHH holes that you can fit your single coils and humbuckers in. I know, basic info, but less than 5 years ago, I didn't know about this great harness and almost missed out on customizing my guitars because I didn't want to solder. And I hesitated buying this when I first discovered this great product. So I hope this helps. A good tip, though, if you put coper foil tape in your guitar, make sure it doesn't touch important metal pieces of this harness or it will short out (I mean, it won't break it, but it would be messed up until you fix it). Have to say that OW is better than its competitors for HSS guitars because it could do 500 pots for humbuckers and 250 pots for single coils.

My first ObsidianWire install was in a Tele build. The Custom Universal turned a really good HH sounding guitar to a great one! I was so impressed, that I installed the Custom ‘7 Way’ in my Fender Player Strat, again turning a really good sounding guitar into a great sounding guitar. Easy, neat, solder less install. Love the versatility ObsidianWire adds to the guitars.

Love the fitment and sound. Great quality; easy to install....but...why do my standard Fender knobs not fit?? OW should include knobs that fit the pots, or use standard sized pot shafts. Now, I have to order knobs that fit!

Used with noiseless pickup install in my old fender strat. Easy install. Worked like a charm. Will definitely order from again!

Had a custom 7 way Gilmore mod assembly fired to my delux Strat with new Seymour Duncan pick ups , now it sings like it should letting me get those clean pure tones or overdriven madness. So impressed with obsidian, ordered from uk on a Wed arrived at my door the next Tuesday !! Thanks so much

Bought the 7 way Gilmour mod to put into my 2017 Mexican standard Strat. Added a whole new dimension to the sound. So pleased with the mod and would highly recommend it to any Strat owner. Fairly easy to install with no soldering. The harness comes with a new input jack which I also installed. I did struggle to get the new jack wires to lock into the block, but managed it eventually. All in all, well worth the money.

Installed custom 7 way in what was already a fantastic guitar, set the switch to clean and the sound is superb. Very, very happy.

Solderless is the way to go! Wire retaining system is rock, or blues, (insert your genre or style of play), solid. Tinned wires are beneficial ‘though not essential.
Discerning the tone controls in the second position, all three pickups, takes a bit of playing around with to understand.
Primary reason for my interest in getting this switch was for the Telecaster sound of bridge and neck pickups. Push/pull pot is extremely smooth and takes minimal effort to lift. I use the pick to quickly lift it.
Shipping was fast, install was easy, if you’re willing to take your time anyone can perform this mod.

I had really nice upgraded electronics in my 60th anniversary American Strat, but wanted to check out the Gilmour mod and super glad I did, really opened up new tones that I’ve been looking for. I do still like the taper on the other volume pot better, smoother control, but otherwise surprisingly satisfied with the system, I can’t stop playing! Highly recommended, AAAA++++.
Put in a 60th Anniversary American Strat and I play through a Blues Jr IV with BillM modes and upgraded Celestion G12H Heritage greenback.

I initially received a defective pull-pot on my unit, but contacted Obsidian Wire through the warranty page, and they very quickly shipped me a new one. Customer service was amazing, and the product works great! Sounds fantastic, and much easier to install than hand wiring a 7 way switch. Very impressed with the company, 100% recommend

I installed the device in. Squire Strat. The install went as expected. The only modification to the guitar was to increase the pot holes size to 10 mm. The upgrades sound great.
